I used these at first to confirm a mold problem and then clarify how bad it was. Super helpful! I realized that it was worse than I had thought and obviously the cause of many recurring health problems. Now as I remove the sources of mold, I can retest again and again to know how what to do next.

I have used several EC3 Mold Screening Test Kits at home and the office. The directions are easy to follow and the results can be seen in just days. The tests are excellent for indicating the quality of the environment.

I was a little skeptical about these especially since EVERYONE says the mold plates are not reliable for finding mold. Everyone says use an ERMI dust collection test. The problem with them is you collect from numerous areas of the home and you have no idea WHERE the mold is. Not to mention, it's not reasonable piece wise to run them every time you get mold. I've been out of mold for 1.5 years now. I'm still in reover and I can not tell you have many times I've had had to take care of problematic areas. These are reasonable and easily done by yourself. I decided to give these a try after my sister successfully used them to find her mold problem. I told her what I had been told about the ERMI testing and she couldn't afford it. I had read on some blogs about these and mentioned them but wasn't sure how well they worked. She actually thought it was her main bath. Come to find out, her master bath and her kitchen showed high levels. They went into crawlspace and found the problems. I then had mold symptoms creeping back back and could not for life of me figure out where the mold was. I had hunted, looked for leaks, etc. Nothing. I I debated on ordering an ERMI or even a HERTSMI2 but not only are these expensive, they also would tell me where it was. I was still skeptical. But for $30, I figured I had spent alot more during my mold recovery and couldn't swing the dust collection tests. I put in diff rooms. The kitchen plate and living room plate came back showing high levels. I found the mold in the drain pan fridge from a faulty ice maker of a brand NEW fridge. The living room baffled me for a little bit. There was no water source in the living room. But the dehumidifier was sitting in dining area blowing towards living room. I had actually checked the dehumidifier before before mold plates and was cleaning it very regularly. However, the mold was deep within the dehumidifier where I could not see it. And I had accidentally left the dining room mold plate out longer thann was expected so while it was showing high, I figured it was kind of botched. I now keep them on hand so I can find mold and also after cleanup to make sure I successfully got it. For price, these are amazing.

These were the first testing platelets I bought to prove to my landlord that there was indeed mold in our house. I used them on the carpet specifically because I had testing done elsewhere that confirmed mold on carpet but wanted to have a good visual of what we were dealing with. These worked perfect, I mean a little scary to see all the mold growing on them but did confirm the extreme conditions of the home.

I describe in the 3 pack candle review how I used these test plates to test areas of our home after I had used a candle in one room the week before. I was confused by the text results when one petri dish was clear and then remembered I had burned the candle in that room. Wow- wouldn't have believed it unless I had seen it.

These plates are incredible! I had professional home mold assessment done and these plates were infinitely more helpful. $700 vs. $35. My only critique is that I recommend leaving the plates out for at least 12 hours rather than the 1 hour as the instructions say. For me, I’d prefer to get a more complete idea of the mold in the area so longer is better. The fabric test works well if you follow the instructions. I’m looking for a new car and these will be invaluable in my hunt! I’ve been raving about these plates to my friends and family so I had to leave a review!

These test plates have been really useful in evaluating the mold in my home and car. However, they get watery after a few months--even when they're stored away from heat. I find it uncomfortable to work with a watery plate when the liquid, including chloremphenicol, gets all over me. It also makes doing a tap test difficult. And it seemed like the test results were not as accurate once the plates got watery. And I'm talking about a significant amount of liquid. I think these are great if you use them right away, but they don't last until their expiration date. Perhaps keeping them in the fridge would help. Response from Micro Balance: We are sorry about this. We always suggest using the plates as soon as possible after you receive them. They can be kept in the fridge to prevent this, especially in warmer climates. This is not required, though. In order to be sensitive enough to produce the most accurate results, they are made with an expiration date. If you ever receive plates that you feel are too watery or are not easy to use, please contact us and we will issue a replacement set immediately.
