The Role of Citrus Seed Extracts and Tea Tree Oil in our EC3 Laundry Additive
Mar 28th 2024
Our EC3 Laundry Additive is a powerful treatment that cleanses most washable fabrics of mold spores, all without the need for harsh synthetic chemicals, perfumes, or dyes.
A simple treatment using this laundry additive can help eliminate mold spores, as well as musty and foul odors. The ingredients we use are antimicrobial in addition to being powerfully antifungal.
In fact, not only is our laundry additive free of those harsh synthetic agents, but it is botanically derived with the kingpins of the blend being two natural agents - a special blend of citrus seed extracts, tangerine oil, and tea tree oil.
Here’s how they work.
Citrus Seed Extracts and Mold
The not-so-secret ingredient in our EC3 Laundry additive is a healthy helping of a blend of citrus seed extracts, food-grade, pure ingredients, used for centuries for their ability to combat microbes, fungi, and other pathogens..
Some citrus seed extracts are now well-attested for their ability to delay or even prevent the growth of mold. Many are packed with flavonoids and polyphenols that are well-known for their antifungal and antimicrobial properties.
Citrus seed extracts don’t just inhibit mold growth, they are also powerful antibacterial agents that can help disinfect clothing and other washable fabrics - safely, gently, and without the need for synthetic disinfectants.
Some citrus seed extracts have been proven so powerful as antimicrobial agents that they have even been observed to have positive effects against the growth of MDR (multidrug resistant) bacteria.
Tea Tree Oil and Mold
Citrus seed extracts are not the only powerhouses at play behind the scenes of our EC3 Laundry Additive. It also owes its efficacy, in part, to tea tree oil.
Also known as melaleuca oil (after the genus of the Australian plant from which it is derived) tea tree oil is an aromatic essential oil that is potently antifungal and antibacterial.
The value of tea tree oil is well known to the scientific community and data shows clearly that tea tree oil exhibits a broad spectrum of antifungal properties.
In fact, tea tree oil is not only antifungal, but like citrus seed extracts, is also antimicrobial. It even exhibits some antiviral and antiprotozoal activities.
Tea tree oil is such a potent antifungal, that it has been demonstrated to inhibit the growth of multiple clinical fungal isolates, including Candida spp.
These ingredients work together to powerfully and effectively cleanse garments and other washable fabrics of mold spores and bacteria when you use our EC3 Laundry Additive.
What Else Our EC3 Laundry Additive Offers
These powerhouse ingredients work hard to cleanse your clothes, towels, linens, athletic wear, and other washable fabrics when you add them to the wash cycle.
Just as importantly, this laundry additive is all natural. There are no metasilicates, caustic agents, or phosphates added to it - and it contains no chlorine, perfumes, or ammonia, either.
The Importance of “Detoxifying” Laundry
Washing alone won’t cleanse your bed linens, towels and clothing of mold spores, which can remain behind and proliferate if they are not neutralized.
Washing can eliminate mold spores, at least on the surface of clothing and other fabrics, but without a special treatment, the spores may remain viable and trapped deep within the weave, only to proliferate once favorable conditions reemerge.
This is a problem for those that have suffered contact with mycotoxins in the past, because the toxins can be very difficult to effectively remove from fabrics and porous materials. In order to truly remediate the issue, the spores must be completely eliminated from the items, and the items must be removed from conditions in which they may be re-exposed to the toxic mold.. Then, the item must be washed with a product designed to not only address the mold spores, but also designed to penetrate the fabric to rinse it clean from toxins.
This is precisely what makes this laundry additive effective, because it destroys mold spores at the source, even those that are trapped deep within fabric and which might not be removed through a normal laundry cycle. This prevents the ability for mycotoxins to be produced so that the item can rinse completely clean.
It’s also important to note that while putrid odors may signify a mold-infected or bacteria-contaminated garment, treating or masking the odor will not resolve the issue.
Some people mistakenly use dryer sheets or fabric softener in an attempt to solve the problem, but all that does is add fragrance to the odors (at best) without treating the underlying cause.
The use of our EC3 Laundry Additive is particularly beneficial for those that use front-loading washing machines as the designs of these machines can trap moisture, which fosters a moldy environment - which our laundry additive can also help counteract.
