Chitosan-BioFlav

Our Chitosan-BioFlav™ supplement contains a blend of chitosan oligosaccharides, chitosan and the bioflavonoids Rutin and Luteolin. Chitosan itself is more of a fiber and contributes to detoxification in the GI tract, whereas Chitosan oligosaccharide (CO) supports detoxification in blood and other tissues. The powerful bioflavonoids in the product are made more bioavailable by the CO and provide clinically significant vascular, neuroprotective, and immune health benefits. *

In a small clinical trial of people being treated for Borrelia and experiencing Herxheimer’s reactions, the use of CO improved Herxheimer’s symptoms by the end of one week.* In subjects with pain, 100% reported significant improvement (in half of these, the pain completely resolved), and of those with sleep disturbances, 75% reported sleeping more deeply and waking up more well rested.*

The research on chitosan oligosaccharides alone is extensive and shows great potential to benefit health. Chitosan oligosaccharides can promote the growth of friendly bifidobacteria and lactobacillus. Unlike fructooligosaccharides (FOS), which promote the growth of only three probiotic strains, chitosan oligosaccharide supports many bifidobacteria and lactobacillus species.

Chitosan oligosaccharide has also been shown to protect the liver from damage by carbon tetrachloride in mice, and to protect against mercury toxicity.* It can promote the activity of antioxidant enzymes and help prevent lipid peroxidation, helping to protect mice poisoned with dioxin. It has also shown potential to support microbial balancing and other immune functions.*

When Rutin and Luteolin, two powerful flavonoids, are combined with the CO, vascular and neurological benefits are further enhanced.* Rutin is a glycoside of quercetin, enhancing its bioavailability and vascular effects. Luteolin acts more directly on inflammatory pathways like COX-2 and interleukins, especially in the brain. Together, they may modulate nitric oxide signaling, oxidative stress, and immune activation more effectively than either alone.* Luteolin blocks inflammatory chemicals from brain immune cells, while rutin supports vascular integrity and antioxidant defenses. This combo has shown promise in reducing symptoms like brain fog, agitation, and sensory sensitivity.*
